We Thank Thee, Oh God, for a Prophet, Week 1

Another wild card month, and our primary has chosen the great hymn, "We Thank Thee, Oh God, for a Prophet" as our song!!

I borrowed an idea I saw online instead of a flipchart, a clever lady blew up a picture of President Monson at the pulpit onto poster board and cut slits in the middle to move a filmstrip through it with images for each line of the song!

This is my version. I just printed two separate (8.5"x11") images and attached them together.

After getting comfortable with the first verse, we are going to learn the favorite songs of some of our prophets! (AND OF COURSE, SING THEM!!)

FAVORITE HYMNS OF THE PROPHETS
(Taken from the CD entitled "Favorite Hymns of the Prophets", by Wade and Wanda Lindstrom)

Joseph Smith:              "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief"

Brigham Young:         "Oh, Ye Mountains High"           (according to Heber J. Grant)
"When First the Glorious Light of Truth"   (according to one of his
                                                                                           (daughters)
(in the 1948 and earlier songbooks)
John Taylor:                "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief"
Wilford Woodruff:     "God Moves in a Mysterious Way"     (according to Heber J. Grant)
Lorenzo Snow:           "For the Strength of the Hills"
"Zion stands with Hills Surrounded"  (He also loved this hymn
                                                                                             according to Heber J. Grant)
Joseph F. Smith:         "I Know that My Redeemer Lives"
Heber J. Grant:           "Come, Come Ye Saints"
George Albert Smith:  "Do What Is Right"
"I Know That My Redeemer Lives"
David O. McKay:        "Love At Home"
"I Know That My Redeemer Lives"
                                      "I Need Thee Every Hour"
                                      "Oh, Say What Is Truth?"
Joseph Fielding Smith:   "The Spirit of God Like a Fire is Burning."
"I Know That My Redeemer Lives."
                                         "Oh, My Father."
Harold B. Lee:                "I Need Thee Every Hour."
                                         "Now Let Us Rejoice."
Spencer W. Kimball:       "I Need Thee Every Hour."
Ezra Taft Benson:           "How Great Thou Art."
                                         "Hark All Ye Nations."
Howard W. Hunter:       Lots of Favorites, but very fond of  "I Need Thee Every Hour."
Gordon B. Hinckley:     Does not have  a  favorite, but he particularly enjoys:
                                       "Praise to the Man."
                                       "Joseph Smith's First Prayer."
                                       "The Morning Breaks"
"The Spirit of God Like a Fire is Burning"
                                       "Redeemer of Israel"
                                       "Sweet is the Work"
                                       "I Need Thee Every Hour"
"God Moves in a Mysterious Way"
                                       "Abide With Me"

    1. Thank you so much! I actually just made my own! I googled each image and printed it out, then I just glued them on my strip in order and taped them down flat so the corners wouldn't get caught each time I pulled it through...

    1. Hi ladies! So, I literally just googled images of our conference pulpit and the our prophet and printed them as large as I could on regular printer size paper, then glued them together to make it look like it was one piece.

The strip I found my own images too. Here is what I came up with:
A road sign: "To guide us in these latter days"
Josephs first vision: "For sending the gospel"
a person standing in sun rays: "To lighten our mind with its rays"
a hand "Bestowed by thy bounteous HAND"
missionaries: "A pleasure to serve thee"
the 10 commandments: "Love to obey thy command"

      HOPE THAT HELPS!! :)

  3. I too am wondering where you saw this idea online to see if I can get a better idea of what pictures to use and how to assemble the film strip. It's a great idea, thanks for sharing it!
